🌾 Updated SBC В.2.2-8:2025 «Enterprises, buildings, and structures for grain storage and processing. Basic provisions»

🗓️ On January 1, 2026, DBN V.2.2-8:2025 «Enterprises, buildings, and structures for grain storage and processing. Basic Provisions» came into force. It replaced the old version of DBN V.2.2-8-98 «Enterprises, buildings, and structures for grain storage and processing» with Amendment No. 1.

The document establishes requirements for the design and construction of grain infrastructure facilities. The standards apply to new construction, reconstruction, and major repairs of elevators, grain warehouses, mills, cereal and feed mills, and other grain storage and processing enterprises. 

The document specifically regulates:

🔹 requirements for master plans of grain industry enterprises;

🔹 spatial planning and design solutions for production buildings, silos, and storage facilities;

🔹 rules for calculating structures and loads;

🔹 requirements for engineering systems (water supply, ventilation, power supply, etc.);

🔹 fire safety, sanitary and environmental requirements, conditions for safe operation of facilities. 

🔎 How does the new SBC differ from SBC В.2.2-8-98 with Amendment No. 1?

1️⃣ Updating the regulatory framework.

The new DBN has been harmonized with modern building codes and standards, in particular with:

🔹 the SBC В.1.2 series on basic requirements for buildings and structures;

🔹 Eurocodes and new State Standard of Ukraine;

🔹 modern fire safety, energy efficiency, and engineering system standards. 

2️⃣ Comprehensive approach to safety and the life cycle of facilities.

The document takes into account the requirements for buildings throughout their entire life cycle - from design to operation, including issues of safety, ecology, and occupational health. 

3️⃣ Expansion of requirements for engineering equipment and operation.

The standards detail requirements for:

🔹 ventilation, power supply, water supply;

🔹 vertical transport (elevators);

🔹 fire protection and automatic fire extinguishing systems.

4️⃣ Updating requirements for silos and structures.

The document contains updated approaches to the design of silos and silo bodies, the calculation of loads from bulk materials, and the use of modern materials and structural solutions.

5️⃣ Additional requirements for accessibility, civil protection, and the environment.

The standards take into account:

🔹 requirements for building inclusivity;

🔹 civil protection measures;

🔹 environmental requirements and environmental impact assessment.

In general, the new DBN V.2.2-8:2025 replaces DBN V.2.2-8-98 and updates the requirements for the design of grain storage and processing enterprises in accordance with modern safety standards, Eurocodes, environmental and engineering requirements.
