🏗️Key Challenges Related to Labor Shortages in the Construction Sector

Oleksandr Chervak, CEO of the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine, took part in an event organized by Helvetas together with the State Employment Service and the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, dedicated to the overall state of the labor market in Ukraine.

The CEO of the CBU emphasized that the restoration of infrastructure, housing stock, and critical infrastructure facilities creates significant demand for qualified workers.

Oleksandr Chervak also stressed the importance of close cooperation between state institutions, businesses, and educational establishments to create a sustainable and inclusive labor market. Special attention was given to the role of the construction sector in reintegrating veterans and internally displaced persons by creating new jobs.

The event was held within the framework of the project Resilience: Building a Sustainable and Inclusive Labor Market in Ukraine, implemented with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation.

📊During the event, the results of the studies Labor Market Assessment of Ukraine 2024–2025 and Study of Registered Unemployment in Ukraine were presented, which showed that demand for workers is growing while the number of those willing to be officially employed is decreasing. 31.7% of employers reported having difficulties finding personnel last year.

In particular, the following construction professions were among the most in-demand on the labor market:

✔️ Repair Locksmith

✔️ Electric Gas Welder

✔️ Electrician

✔️ Rolling Stock Repair Locksmith

✔️ Driver
