🏥 What medical facilities should be like in wartime
On May 29, 2026, a coordination meeting was held between the CBU, the Department of Spatial Planning of Territories and Architecture of the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, and representatives of Finnish IHDA companies. The meeting was dedicated to the design of modern hospital infrastructure in Ukraine, taking into account security challenges and the needs of the healthcare system in wartime conditions.
👥 The CBU was represented at the event by Oleksandr Chervak, CEO, and the Department of Spatial Planning of Territories and Architecture of the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine was represented by Director Yevhen Plashchenko.
🏗️ Foreign experts presented their developments regarding the functional planning of hospitals, the organization of inpatient and outpatient departments, operating blocks, intensive care units, and other critical medical functions.
Special attention was paid to modern modular and prefabricated structural solutions that allow for optimizing construction, ensuring layout flexibility, and increasing the efficiency of project implementation. One of the key topics was the integration of shelters and protective spaces into the hospital structure.
The participants emphasized that an active discussion is currently underway in Ukraine and European countries regarding new approaches to designing hospital shelters, in particular, the creation of not only underground but also above-ground reinforced spaces for critical medical functions.
🤝 The importance of coordination between international partners, line ministries, and Ukrainian specialists was also highlighted to form modern regulatory approaches to the design of protective infrastructure in medical facilities.
Experts stressed the need to create balanced solutions that will combine a high level of safety for patients and staff, the functionality of medical facilities, and the economic feasibility of implementing such projects.
