On October 1, 2024, as part of Business Day, a presentation of a study on the current state of professional and practical training of vocational technical education applicants in construction professions took place.

 

🤝The NGO "Ukrainian Marketing Association" was executor of the research organized by the Swisscontact with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the NGO "League of Masters".

 

The research was presented by experts:

💠Yuliia Yepifanova, Deputy Project Manager, Head of the "Private Sector Involvement" direction, EdUP project

💠Iryna Lylyk, President of the NGO "Ukrainian Marketing Association"

💠Olena Buchynska, Expert of the NGO "Ukrainian Marketing Association"

 

✔️Organizers of the event: Confederation of Builders of Ukraine together with the Ukrainian-Swiss project "Public-private partnership to improve professional education in Ukraine" (EdUP).

 

☝️Qualitative (in-depth interviews) and quantitative (national survey) indicators were analyzed for the study.

 

In-depth interviews were conducted among:

🔸28 institutions of professional (vocational and technical) education;

🔸90 respondents (students of education; teaching staff; employers).

 

The following participated in the national survey:

🔹288 institutions of professional (vocational and technical) education;

🔹2392 education seekers;

🔹1,127 pedagogical workers of vocational technical education institutions;

🔹484 construction industry enterprises (121 of them are practice bases).

 

☑️Experts noted the factors that affect the level of professional and technical training of vocational education graduates.

 

In particular, the greatest influence is exerted by the possibility of an internship, the presence of a mentor at the enterprise, and the level of qualification of teaching staff.

 

Educators pay special attention to the personal qualities of industrial training masters and the material and technical support of enterprises.

 

At the same time, teaching staff noted the importance of the level of material and technical support of both educational institutions and enterprises, and the level of qualification of teaching staff.

 

📚Regarding the need for educational materials, EdUP experts reported that educators prefer textbooks, materials, and layouts, while learners prefer videos, mobile apps, and presentations.

 

Both employers and foremen of vocational technical institutes said that 49% of applicants work at full-time workplaces of enterprises during their internship, and 44% of students undergo internship as part of qualified work crews.

 

💪85% of the students of education expressed their satisfaction with the internship at the company and most of them (76%) are doing internship in the profession they are acquiring.

 

With regard to material and technical support, the study showed that more than 60% of the interviewed masters of industrial training of vocational (vocational and technical education) institutions have a modern base for practice, and 40% of pedagogical workers confirm the availability of adapted laboratories/workshops for inclusive education.

 

✔️Experts told why companies cooperate with professional technicians. Thus, some enterprises traditionally cooperate with educational institutions, and some train specialists specifically for the enterprise's own needs. Other reasons for cooperation are:

🔸youth mainly aged 17 to 25;

🔸modern materials and technical support in educational institutions;

🔸short period of study.

 

Why companies do NOT cooperate with technical colleges:

➖reluctance of the enterprise to spend time on "retraining";

➖refusal of many enterprises to take minors on industrial practice;

➖reluctance to spend additional money on overalls for applicants;

➖requirement from the enterprise for applicants to come exclusively with their own tool;

➖absence of a mentoring institute at enterprises.
