On April 11, 2024, as part of the Recovery Construction Forum Ukraine, a discussion panel "Reconstruction through the eyes of architects: proposals and cases for implementation" was held at the "Parkovy" 🏗️
👤The moderator was Iryna Yarmolenko, Founder and CEO of the Innovation Reconstruction Summit (IRS)
Speakers who joined the panel:
✔️Andrii Myrhorodskyi, Chief Project Architect of Project Systems Ltd
✔️Anna Iskierdo, Director of AIMM-GROUP
✔️ Yevhen Tsaryov, CEO of Logistruct, architect, engineer
✔️Vitaliy Boyko, Founder of URBAN EXPERTS and NAI UKRAINE, real estate expert
✔️Tetiana Ladan, Professor of Basics of architecture and architectural design of Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture
✔️Oleksandr Novytskyi, building inspection expert, energy auditor, Ph.D., head of the Engineering Bureau "EvoCon"
✔️Rostyslav Lytvynov, Student, worked as an architect at the Archimatika bureau, developer of the reconstruction project of the Mykolaiv Cultural Center

Andrii Myrhorodskyi noted that, in his opinion, the most important issue today, which the architectural community needs to discuss, is ideas and fundamentally new strategies for the development of Ukraine. After all, currently there is no single "rule" that would solve all the challenges that have arisen in the country.
💬 "New urban planning should primarily be aimed at creating a new powerful economy. A strategic approach is needed, which will apply not only to the territories affected by military actions, but also to reformation from the point of view of urban planning of those territories that did not suffer such losses," Mr. Andrii explained.

♻️Anna Iskierdo spoke about the sustainable development and reuse of building materials and emphasized that despite the war, architects should continue to build and create projects in an ecologically responsible manner: "These are the principles that should be thought about and implemented in Ukraine."

🏭 Yevhen Tsaryov emphasized that the western regions were faced with the task of resettling and providing for internally displaced persons. Thus, the company focused on the following important components: human dignity, workplace, inclusive housing, accessibility and work with communities. So, now Logistruct focuses its work on the design of industrial, production, warehouse facilities. 15 projects have been already implemented during the war.

Vitaliy Boyko told that the reconstruction should be based on 3 modern principles of "Build Back Better", in particular: modern planning (without soviet master plans, no ghettos and sleeping areas, no markets or mono-zoning), designing according to the principle of Research-led approach, 15-minute availability.
💬He also noted that an important indicator of reconstruction should be the involvement of international business in Ukraine to increase GDP: "This is the only way to win this war."

💬Tetiana Ladan said that today students of Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture are actively working on the study of cities from the point of view of architectural monuments: "We are working so that each city has its own highlight/concept that can be noticed and remembered immediately."

Oleksandr Novytskyi noted that in April 2022, the EvoCon company focused on how to save people so that they do not leave the Sumy region (the city of Okhtyrka), which has suffered significant destruction, and how to restore it. He noted that the process of restoring such settlements should be based on the concepts of integral development of the city.
✅If we talk, as an example, about the specific object of the "Knezha" cinema, then, according to the speaker, it should be restored not according to the principle "as it was", but "as it should be".

As part of the panel, Rostyslav Lytvynov told the participants about the reconstruction project of the "Kashtanovy" square in Mykolaiv, which is being developed for the "100 Ideas for Cities" Hackathon.
