⛰️Recovery and Production: How Metallurgy and Construction Are Shaping Ukraine’s Future
Oleksandr Chervak, CEO of the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine, gave a presentation on the current state of Ukraine’s construction industry during the “Ukraine’s Ferrous Metallurgy 2025” conference held on April 29.
The event brought together representatives of leading companies in ferrous metallurgy, the energy sector, logistics, and construction to discuss the main challenges and strategies for restoring Ukraine’s industrial potential.
🏗️During the third session of the conference — focused on the domestic steel market, distribution, and demand — Oleksandr Chervak outlined the key needs of the construction sector for steel products and emphasized the importance of coordinated cooperation with steel producers to ensure the country’s efficient reconstruction.
In his presentation, Oleksandr Chervak highlighted several pressing issues shaping the construction sector. The current state of residential construction is marked by a gradual revival in regions with relatively stable security conditions. In the commercial segment, there is growing interest in logistics centers and industrial facilities, reflecting the economy’s need for adaptation.
The overall condition of the industry is influenced by macroeconomic factors, regulatory policies, access to financing, and logistics for construction materials. Government programs such as eOselya (eHousing) and eVidnovlennia (eRecovery) are stimulating demand for housing construction and the repair of damaged buildings by leveraging both public and private resources. In 2025, further growth in residential construction and an uptick in private investment in commercial facilities are anticipated. This opens new opportunities for metal traders to collaborate with construction companies, particularly in supplying rolled steel, pipes, and metal products.
During the conference, discussions also focused on the long-term global competitiveness of Ukraine’s ferrous metallurgy. Participants explored the prospects for developing business models that account for energy costs, raw material availability, and risks related to trade restrictions. Significant attention was also given to investment opportunities in new steel production projects and capacity expansion.
