🏭 Updated requirements for the design of industrial engineering structures

On 1 January 2026, SBC В.2.2-29:2025 “Industrial Engineering Structures. Design Fundamentals” entered into force, replacing the outdated CRSBC 2.09.03-85.

📑 The document introduces a comprehensive regulatory framework for the design of a wide range of industrial engineering structures within the modern Ukrainian construction standards system. Previously, these facilities were designed under fragmented or outdated regulations.

SBC В.2.2-29:2025 establishes updated requirements for the design of industrial engineering structures, including underground and partially buried structures, storage structures for liquids and bulk materials, technological trestles and galleries, as well as high-rise engineering structures such as cooling towers, chimneys and ventilation stacks.

🏗️ In particular, the standard defines, for the first time at the SBC level, methodologies for calculating loads from bulk materials acting on silo structures and their bottoms. The document specifies methods for determining the horizontal pressure of bulk materials, calculating axial forces in silo walls, and determining loads on silo bottoms.

In addition, the standard includes:

🔸 Requirements for steel and reinforced concrete tanks for liquids, as well as gas holders, including structural design rules, load calculations, material requirements and foundation design provisions.

🔸 Requirements for conveyor, cable and pipeline trestles and galleries used in industrial facilities.

🔸 Design and calculation rules for structural systems of chimneys, ventilation stacks, cooling towers, exhaust towers and water towers.

📌 The document also provides definitions of key terms and concepts used in the design of industrial engineering structures and establishes a list of regulatory documents that must be considered when designing such facilities. The provisions may also be applied in the design of engineering structures for non-industrial facilities and engineering and transport infrastructure, provided they do not conflict with the relevant construction standards.
