On November 12, 2024, another meeting was held in Warsaw, Poland, regarding the development of a modern, innovative project for reuse of a healthcare facility.

The current situation with hospitals in Ukraine was discussed, with nearly 2,000 hospitals destroyed or damaged due to the war.

The event was attended by:

👤 Yevhen Plashchenko, Director of the Department of Territorial Planning and Architecture of the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine

👤Vitaliy Karanda, Head of the Project Office for the Restoration of the Health Care System of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine

👤Jukka Vasara, Vice President, Granlund Group, Chairman of IHDA (Integrated Hospital Design Alliance)

👤Rami Kolehmainen, representative IHDA

👤Anna-Riitta Kallinen, representative IHDA

👤Henry Pesonen, representative IHDA

👤Oleksandr Chervak, CEO of the CBU

👤Olena Molotkova, expert of the CBU

👤and other

🏥Henry Pesonen emphasized the importance of local partners in Ukraine for the design process, particularly during the final stages. It is essential to understand how each component of the hospital will function, how different departments will operate, how logistics will be managed, and how the specific hospital will integrate into the overall healthcare system of Ukraine.

🏥Vitaliy Karanda highlighted the need to create a modern hospital, not one based on outdated models. Additionally, it is important to consider the different needs of various cities and villages across different regions.

Thus, the future hospital must be modular and easily adaptable to specific needs: capable of expansion, highly functional, and flexible in terms of technical systems, among other factors.

The participants also discussed the importance of adhering to all necessary Ukrainian building norms and standards, which are unfamiliar to Finnish architects. This further emphasizes the need for active involvement of Ukrainian architects and designers in the process.

🏗️As noted by Oleksandr Chervak, there are a number of construction standards in Ukraine that need to be taken into account when designing a hospital. However, if innovative solutions are proposed during the work that could improve the Ukrainian regulatory framework, the CBU is open to such initiatives.

This is already the third project of this scale by IHDA. IHDA is the Integrated Healthcare Design Alliance, which brings together companies with extensive experience in all areas of healthcare infrastructure development. Their expertise ensures high-quality construction, adherence to international standards, and more. Thanks to their accumulated experience, IHDA is adept at finding innovative approaches to design and optimizing processes, which helps reduce costs and increase efficiency.

🤝We remind you that earlier IHDA companies started close cooperation on the development of the pilot project "Development of the project for reuse in the construction of a health care facility in Ukraine" for the needs of the construction of hospitals in Ukraine with the support of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine and the Ministry of health of Ukraine, in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine.

The goal is to prepare the project for the reuse of the "Working Project" stage, which will undergo an expert review and then be submitted to the Single Electronic System in the Construction Sector. Upon completion of this project, the next stage of cooperation will be the construction of a pilot healthcare facility in Ukraine.
