🏫Finnish Prefab Technologies in the Construction of Modern Educational Institutions
The potential of this method was presented by Yurii Tromsa, Director of Peikko Ukraine, the strategic partner of the forum “Modern Finnish Technologies, Equipment, and Experience – for the Reconstruction of Ukraine” during his speech in the discussion block.
Peikko offers a range of solutions in the field of precast concrete structures, which offer significant advantages:
🔹Quality control – precast concrete structures are manufactured in a controlled environment, ensuring high concrete quality and precise element dimensions.
🔹Construction speed – assembly is faster compared to traditional cast-in-place concrete, reducing labor costs and project implementation timelines. Since most work is performed indoors, weather conditions do not affect the construction pace. Time savings can exceed 50%.
🔹Cost-effectiveness – reduced labor costs and material waste contribute to overall budget savings. The method uses 20–30% less steel, cement, and concrete, and reduces labor use by 65%.
🔹Combination of design and structural strength – factory-made components maintain consistent strength and quality, reducing structural load.
Precast concrete construction has several positive environmental aspects compared to traditional cast-in-place concrete and other methods. These include reduced material waste, more efficient resource use (including the possibility of using recycled materials), and lower carbon emissions during transportation.
🏫Yurii Tromsa also informed about a pilot project for the construction of a Ukrainian school. In addition to Peikko, project partners include Elematic Oyj, Polar Partners, Konecranes, Sitowise Oy, LMA, Budova.
💬“We considered several projects where we could be of interest to Ukraine and bring in Finnish expertise. Finland is the No.1 leader in education in Europe, and possibly in the world. We decided that the best demonstration of Finnish technology capabilities would be the creation of a school project. This project will be based on the best Finnish methodologies, and we are fully taking into account the principles of the ‘New Ukrainian School’ reform,” noted Mr. Tromsa.
The design principles can be applied to schools of various sizes and locations.
🎨The school features flexible learning spaces that support new teaching methods such as project-based or collaborative learning. These spaces allow for the combination of different-sized zones and educational functions through the use of movable partitions and flexible multifunctional furniture.
This modern school building incorporates advanced technical solutions to ensure health, safety, energy efficiency, operational reliability, and environmental sustainability. High-quality ventilation systems with air filtration improve indoor air quality.
Safety is enhanced by fire-resistant materials, smart security systems, and emergency lighting.
🔋Energy efficiency is achieved through LED lighting, solar panels, heat pumps, and optimized insulation, reducing operational costs.
Lev Partskhaladze, President of the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine, invited Peikko to join the "Architectural Navigator" project, initiated by the CBU and PRAGMATIKA.MEDIA.
We thank Peikko Ukraine for its active involvement in the reconstruction of Ukraine, implementation of innovative solutions in the construction industry, and reliable partnership! Together, we are laying a solid foundation for the successful future of Ukraine and Finland!
